DISPUTE SETTLEMENT

FEDERATION OF LABOUR TO TAKE ACTION P.A. WELLINGTON, Mar. 5. “We have agreed~to hand over the carpenters’ dispute to this council,” announced Mr F. L. Langley, national president of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, in a session this afternoon. Mr Langley said he made the statement after conferring with the national executive of the union. Mr A. W. Croskery, federation president, said this move was a good omen and he thought the council might be able to settle the dispute. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, advised the federation council that because of the late receipt of the invitation it was not possible for the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, and himself to attend the meeting this afternoon, but lie stated that Mr McLagan and he would be pleased to meet the council or its representatives at Parliament Buildings this afternoon or evening to discuss the industrial situation.
