LABOUR WINS WIGAN BY-ELECTION

Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Mar 5. The Wigan by-election resulted:— R. W. Williams (Labour) .. 28,941 H Dowling (Conservative) .. Wbb T. Rowlandson (Communist) .. 1,647 O. L. Roberts (“King’s Cavalier ”) 932

Messrs Rowlandson and Roberts forfeited their deposits. Of the total electorate, 81.42 per cent, voted. The vacancy was caused by the death ot Mr W. Foster.

At the last general election the result was: Foster (Labour), 31,392; E. C. Hul-bert-Powell (Conservative), 14,666.
