ENGLAND’S BAD START

THIRD CRICKET TEST AGAINST WEST INDIES

Rec 8 p.m. GEORGETOWN, Mar. 4 (British Guiana).

West Indies declared its first innings closed at eight wickets for 297 in the third test against England. Worrell was not out 131. and Weeks 36. Bowling for England, Allen took one for five, Tremlett one for 35. Cranston four for 78, and Laker two for 94. England in its first innings failed badly having lost nine for 110 at stumps (Hutton 31. Robertson 23, Cranston 24, Laker 10, Trim, two for six, Goddard, four for 31, Ferguson three for 23). Rain prevented play before lunch to-day. The decision of the West Indies captain, Goodard, to declare as soon as he realised the wicket was taking spin, paid dividends. England put on 59 for the first wicket but nine wickets then fell for 51. Goodard put his team on top bv dismissing Hutton, Robertson and Place for six runs or 20 deliveries.
