ANOTHER BUS DRIVER DISMISSED

TRAMWAYMEN INCENSED EXECUTIVE TO MEET Another bus driver lias been dismissed from the service of the Dunedin City Transport Department as the result of a full-scale inquiry into a fatal accident last November. Feeling among members of the Dunedin branch of the Tramways Union is running high, and a special executive meeting will be held at 10.30 this morning to consider what action is to be taken.

"The. present quiet and apparently harmonious working in the Dunedin tram industry threatens to be shattered by the latest action of the engineer-manager, Mr L. C. Greig,” said the senior vice-president of the union, Mr A. E. Scoones, in a statement to the Daily Times last night. "Another bus driver has been dismissed as the result of a fatal accident which happened on November 26. After the inquest proceedings, a full departmental inquiry was held, terminating on March 3. To-day the engi-neer-manager gave his reserved decision, which was dismissal.

“ The immediate reaction of union members is that the sentence meted out to this worker—who has gone through the ordeal of a coroner’s inquest and has been notified that there, will be no police proceedings—is a vicious one,” continued Mr Scoones. “ The demand from members for im* mediate action has led to the calling of a special meeting of the executive at 10.30 on Saturday morning.” The only recorded fatal accident in Dunedin on November 26 happened early that morning, when an employee of a city brewery was knocked down by a City Corporation bus at the corner of Rattray and Maclaggan streets. He later died in the Public Hospital.
