SALES BY AUCTION jpYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. IMPORTANT CLEARING SALE AT “CROFTLEA” CAREW On Account of Mr Allan Pithie. SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 1948, Sale at 9.30 a.m. Having sold his property, Mr Pithie has instructed us to hold, in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., A COMPLETE CLEARING SALE OF HIS STOCK AND PLANT. Particulars are as follows: — ' CORRIEDALE STUD FLOCK No. 204. 120 two, four, six and eight-tooth Corriedale Ewes 50 Corriedale ewe Lambs 40 Corriedale ram Lambs. ALL STUD SHEEP WILL BE OFFERED IN LOTS OF TEN. This Stud was founded in June, 1929, by Mr Pithie, who purchased 30 twotooth ewes from Mr L. W. White (F 9) and 10 four-shear ewes from the Trustees of ,T. H. Ensor (Fl 9). Sires used include “ Elgin G 24,” bred by Cochrane Bros.. “ Longbeach 25,” of 1934, bred by Mr J. H. Grigg, and “ No. 1 of 38,” bred by Mr R. J. Martin. By careful selection of rams and strict culling of ewes, this flock has maintained a high standard. Being bred at a high altitude, they are strong in constitution, are particularly well clad, and before the war years were readily purchased by overseas buyers. With the keen demand and high prices for the finer wools, farmers will have the opportunity of purchasing their rams for next season from an attractive line of ram lambs. ROMNEY STUD FLOCK No. 1633. 108 two, four, six- and eight-tooth Ewes 50 ewe Lambs 40 ram Lambs. With the introduction of heavy liming and top-dressing, Mr Pithie could see that he would also have to introduce the stronger-woolled sheep, so in 1938 he started his Romney stud by purchasing 24 ewes from Mr R. Oakley (F 881). Sires used: Heathfleld 18/41 (42952), Merrivale 155 (44485), Merrivale 680/42 (44486), Pinewood 04/43 (47515), Being bred under the same conditions as the Corriedales, they are heavily boned and carry a good fleece. These rams have proved to be good hill-country sheep as thev are in no way pampered; this also applies to the Corriedales. An inspection of the flock ewes and ewe lambs is sufficient recommendation for these two studs.
