AUSTRALIAN OVERSEAS TRADE
The value of goods exported from Australia in the six months ended December 31. 1947, was £160,042,000 of which £8,295,000 came to New Zealand. Next to the United Kingdom, New Zealand is Australia's largest Empire market. Although New Zealand only absorbs approximately five per cent, of Australian exports the volume of trade is rather more important to Australia than the figures indicate. New Zealand is one of the few countries which import secondary industry products from Australia and this outlet is a valuable extention of the Australian local market enabling larger scale nroduction and economies in unit costs.
