Lottery Tickets in Pay Envelopes to Attract Employees
Rec. 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 28. Free lottery tickets were being placed in weekly pay envelopes by some Sydney employers trying to hold tlieir employees and attract new hands, according to Employment Service officers. Other new baits offered workers were organised lunch-time sporting contests, and luncli-lime lectures on fashions and demonstrations and advice on. hair styling and make-up. In spite of these baits, labour shortages in New South Wales outside the industries affected by the dollar cuts are regarded as critical. An official of the Employment Service said there had never before been such a shortage of labour in Australia.
