In a Hearse
Miss Coleen Gordon, of Auckland. and Miss Nan Webber, of Christchurch, were among the centennial visitors who hitch-hiked to Dunedin to see the fireworks. Two of a party of six girls who made the journey by thumbing rides, they left Christchurch at 3 p.m. on Friday, and arrived in Dunedin early on Saturday afternoon, having made their way in a variety of vehicles, and camped out overnight. Some of the party travelled the last stage of the journey, from Oamaru to the city, in an empty hearse!
