HORSES FOR TRENTHAM Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 27. The Riccarton contingent disappointed on the first day of the Dunedin meeting. The success of the two-year-old, Finigin, was the only bright spot of the day and this youngster may i)ow go on to good form. Helio and Wild Spec are a couple of maidens on the up grade, while the staying hack, Responsive, requires only a shade of luck to be an early winner. C. G. Humphries had an unfortunate trip south with the Cup candidate, Royal Tan. The Royal Chief gelding ricked himself while exercising after his arrival at Wingatui and he had to miss his engagements on both days of the meeting. It is to be hoped he will make a good recovery and that his autumn racing will not be interfered with as he is due for a change of luck in a major handicap.

A. S. Ellis is working a grey two-year-old who, though small, may be useful later qn. She is by Nizami and her dam is closely related to Silver Ring, a topclass performer a few years ago. Nominations from Otago and Southland include Excellency Signal Officer, Frances, Air Ace, Gamble, Ruling Moment, Gunther, Bobby Dazzler. and Sea Flower.
