A.T.C. “ Inquirer,” Dunedin.—lnquiries are still being made concerning the case you mention. Jottings Acceptances for the Cromwell meeting are due on Tuesday. Nominations for the Riverton meeting are due on Monday. First day’s form points to The Hob and Finigin fighting out the finish of the Century Handicap to-day. Cromwell "Fields Cover Drive was omitted from the John Colling and Farewell Handicaps in the list of nominations for the Cromwell meeting.. Finishing On Lovemorn was finishing on in the Victory Handicap on Thursday and the extra furlong of the Captain Cargill Handicap will probably suit the Nightly mare. Made Up Ground Dileas ran his best race for some time to finish second to Sal's Pal in the President’s Handicap. He made up a lot of ground over the last two furlongs. Change of Owners Grand Pal has been bought by Messrs O. Fraser and C. Kitchen and will be bracketed with Wee Mac in the Kai Ora Handicap to-day. Prospect for To-day The Salmagundi filly Jan has only one pound more to carry to-day than she did on Thursday and looks one of the possibilities in the Blundell Handicap. Too Soon Sir Garnish appeared to hit the front too soon in the Centennial Cup. He would probably have finished closer up had he been held in behind. Impressive Win Heroic Girl won on Thursday in a manner suggesting further successes. A four-year-old bv Siegfried, she was got from Winsome Sister, by Some Boy II from Sister Regis, by Charlemange II from St. Regis, by Hotchkiss. Kia Ora Handicap Responsive has been lifted four pounds for her second in the Edinburgh Handicap but looks one of the possibilities in the Kia Ora Handicap. She meets Grand Pal on four pound better terms for a narrow defeat. Brackets Brackets at Wingatul are:—Pioneer Hurdle Handicap. Gunther and Percy; Captain Cargill Handicap., Kartikeya and Antibes; Kia Ora Handicap, Grand Pal and Wee Mac. Running Out of Hacks Sea Venture has been raised three pounds for running second on Thursday, but meets Heroic Girl on four and threequarter pounds better terms. Sea Venture, who will run out her engagements to-day, is well up to weight and may be prominent throughout the running of the Blundell Handicap. Broke Down Air Ace broke down just after crossing the line in the Victory Handicap and his racing days are probably over. In spite of being affected by stringhalt, he has been a most consistent performer for Mr J. P. O’Brien and generally paid substantial dividends. Sumra’s Performance One of the surprises of the Centennial Cup was the performance of Sumra in running second. The Siegfried mare fought on very gamely in a desperate finish for the minor places. The Topweight Signal Officer carried 8.11 in the Centennial Cup and has 9.1 for the shorter journey of the Otago Handicap. He meets Eriskay on 91b better terms, Sumra 41b better terms, and Spare Part on 21b better terms. Signal Officer should be one of the hardest to beat. Wingatui Sales At the sales at Wingatui yesterday the two highest priced yearlings fell to the bid of the Otautau sportsman, Mr A. Chisholm. The Royal Chief colt that brought 600gns was got ~f rorS ) Main, by Balboa from Miss Signal, by Signalman from Miss Start. He is a halfbrother to Spanish Main, who won the Homeby Steeples and was twice second in the Grand National Steeplechase. The colt that brought 550gns was got by Chief from Irish Dona, by Irish Lancer from Spanish Maid, by from Mis_ Signal, and so comes from the same family as Signal Officer.
