Vicc-Regal The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg, accompanied by members of their staff, witnessed the ‘ Cavalcade of Progress ” from the Market Reserve. Later, his Excellency met members of the British Schools’ Club (Otago) in the R.S.A. board room.
At Monday night’s meeting of the City Council, Mr A. E. Read, at present assistant engineer in the transport department, was appointed to the position of assistant chief engineer in the department. Mr Bruce S. Johnston, of Port Chalmers, was the guest of honour at a social given by the Presbyterian community last night. Mr Johnston is taking a veterinary course in Sydney.
Major-general J. J. Murray, the Australian Trade Commissioner, arrived in Dunedin yesterday to represent the Commonwealth at the centennial celebrations. Re is staying at Wain’s Hotel, and- will remain until , the end pf the week.
