Sixty-seven runs in 23 minutes for an outright win by nine wickets was the phenomenal scoring rate by the Fijian cricketers in the concluding stages of the representative match with Waikato at Hamilton. With nine wickets down for 250, Fiji declared their first innings closed at lunch with a lead of 81 runs. Apted completed his century before being caught on the boundary by Lyon off the bowling of Lissette. The later Fijian batsmen went cheaply through their inability to cope with the slow bowlers. Everest, the Waikato captain, declared the second innings closed with eight down for 147. Fiji opened with two big hitters in their second innings. Aria was bowled bv Lyon before a run was scored, but Bula,‘ who had batted so well for 77 in the first innings, scored quickly with some strong hits. He scored 53 in 21 minutes, hitting five 6’s and three 4’s. The crowd was delighted with the hitting and also with the smart singles stolen by Bula and Semi. The leg-break bowler, Fenn, met with success in Waikato’s second innings, taking four for 20. Viliame bowled well. Everts and Petrie, who made some nice cuts and drives in his unbeater; 46, were the best batsmen for Waikato.,
