CITY TRANSPORT

NORMAL SERVICE OPERATES STATEMENT BY UNION A normal service was operated on all city transport routes yesterday, and the stop-work meeting hinted at in yesterday’s statement by the vice-president of the Tramways Union, Mr A. E. Scoones, did not eventuate. The executive of the union held a meeting in the afternoon and a statement was subsequently issued by its Press Committee. It stated that it was the considered opinion of the executive that Cr Anderson’s statement to the press while negotiations 0 were still in progress was unwarranted, misrepresenting and antagonistic. The deputation met the committee in a spirit of co-operation and with the desire to find an amicable solution to the present position. It appeared that some progress had been made in this direction, the statement continues, but the deputation was astounded to learn on leaving the conference that Cr Anderson’s statement already appearing in the press had completely nullified all the efforts made. “ The executive has decided therefore that the full circumstances must be placed before the members of the union for their consideration at the earliest opportunity.” the statement concludes. The appeal by the driver against his dismissal will be heard by the Appeals Board to-day.
