FISHING LAUNCH

NEW VESSEL FOR OAMARU MODERN FEATURES INCORPORATED A new fishing launch to be operated off the Oamaru coast, is at present nearing completion in the yards of Miller and Tunnage, Ltd., at Carey s Bay, Port Chalmers. Named the Joan, the vessel will be launched next Thursday if the weather permits and she will proceed to Oamaru as soon as her trials end. Incorporating many modern features, the Joan wilj possess a “ ship-to-shore radio telephone and her engine, a National Diesel, fitted with a 2-to-l reducing gear and a McGregor propellor, is expected to give the vessel a speed of nine knots. She has .a spacious engine room, the wheelhouse is amidships and an ample cruising range has been ensured by the installation of extra large fuel and fresh water tanks. The vessel, with a raking stem, cruiser stern and self-baling cockpits fore and aft, will carry two masts and all the necessary equipment for line fishing. Her dimensions are:—Length, 36ft; beam, 9ft 3in; depth, 4ft. Designed by Miller and Tunnage, Ltd., the Joan is being built for Mr H. H. Callaghan, of Oamaru.
