GIFT FROM DOMINION

CAPTURED JAPANESE SWORD Rec. 10 p.m. OTTAWA, Jan. 22. Mr James Thorn, the New Zealand High Commissioner to-night presented a captured Japanese sword to Mr Brooke Claxton, Minister of National Defence. Mr Claxton then handed the sword to Air Vice-marshal A. L. James, who was acting in the absence of the Chief of Air Staff. The sword was sent from New Zealand by Air Vice-marshal Sir Leonard Isitt, former Chief of Air Staff, in recognition of the part played by Canada in training New Zealand airmen. Eight thousand New Zealand airmen were trained in Canada under the Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
