SAWDUST “GREENS”
SUCCESSFUL; TRIALS After three years expert,•.iting, Mr S. Dick, of Christchurch, has been able to form successful bowling greens from sawdust, which he claims, produces a surface that is similar and just as true as grass or weed. Mr Dick who has been playing in the New Zealand championships, has already produced a number of sawdust ” greens ” in the north and he is going to Central Otago to help clubs there establish such artificial lawns. With him it is just ai hobby but he feels that the use of sawdust will be of great value to small towns and townships which cani.ot support a greenkeeper. ' Sawdust greens save 90 per cent, of j the cost of a bowling green and 75 per cent, of the labour. The artificial layns produced by Mr Dick have all been done with voluntary labour and they have been favourably commented upon by leading New Zealand bowlers.
