BOTH FACTIONS ACTIVE Rec. 9.45 p.m. JERUSALEM, Oct. 18. The Transjordan’s British-trained frontier force has moved its headquarters from Zerka to Rosh-Pinah "for administrative reasons.” Reuter’s correspondent quotes the Jerusalem Arab nwspaper A 1 Widha as saying Taha Hashimi Pasha, the former Iraqi Chief-of-Staff and F re " mier, has been appointed Commander - in-Chief of the Arab armies m the Middle East. Al Widha added that figures before the Arab League Council showed that the cornbined Arab forces available for military action totalled about 230,000. _ Mohamed Hawari, Commander-in-Chief of the Joint Arab Military Organisations. Najadda and Futuwa, appealed in Jaffa to Arab youth to register immediately for “military duty in defence of the motherland.” Posters declared; "Arab youth must be prepared to shed blood cheaply. Every malingerer will be treated as a traitor.” A campaign has opened to enlarge the ranks of Haganah. Posters in large Jewish cities and settlements called on Jews and Jewesses between the ages of 15 and 50 to register between October 19 and October 30 for civil duties. This is the first open conscription to Haganah since 1936. The resignation is announed ot Colonel Bernard Fergusson, a senior Palestine police officer, who refused to testify at the court martial which acquitted Major Roy Farran of a charge of murdering a Jewish youth.
