TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

TEN DEATHS IN SEPTEMBER NEED FOR INCREASED VIGILANCE “Ten people were killed in traffic accidents during September,” said the Commissioner of Transport (Mr G. L. Laurenson) in a statement to the press. “ This compares with 11 deaths on the roads in September last year. Traffic deaths for the last three months totalled 43 as against 46 over the corresponding period last year”. Six of the 10 accidents in September occurred during the hours of darkness, pointing again-to the need for extra care at night. Seven of those killed were drivers or passengers of motor vehicles, while tne remaining three comprised a cyclist, a motor cyclist and a pedestrian. Four of the fatalities resulted from vehicles getting out of control and leaving the road or overturning, while a level crossing collision caused yet another death. “I would again stress three essentials for safe driving,” said the commissioner “Keep left, keep your speed down, and take care at inter: sections and level crossings.”
