POPULAR PROGRAMME

TAIERI COMPETITIONS YESTERDAY’S SESSION The Coronation Hall, Mosgiel was again well filled last night, when the Taieri Competitions were continued. A very interesting programme was presented, the results of which were:— Vocal Music Judge: Mr James Clark Sons (girls 15 and under 18).—Miss Naire Holland 1, Miss Pat Golden 2, Miss V ' (15 and under 18).—Miss Ngaire Holland 1, Miss Lorraine Rennie 2. The competitors had chosen, songs which were too difficult and not really suitable for young voices, the (any voices, 15 and under 18) Miss Lorraine Rennie and Miss Zona Astburv 1, Miss Valerie Taylor and Miss June Brice 2, Miss Barbara Stewart and Miss Margaret Marshall and Miss Ngaire Holland and Miss Beverley Holland 3 <e lction Duet in Character (15 and under 18).—Miss Lorraine Rennie and Miss Beryl Cumming 2. Playettes Judge: Mr Bernard J. Dunne Playette (limit of 12 players, 12 and under 16, 15min).—Mrs E. Lobb’s pupils 1. Plays Judge: Mrs Lance Griffiths One-act Play (30min).—'The Mosgiel Players (“ Dark Brown ”) 1, Outram Drama Club (“Gild the Mask Again”) 2. WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS The following are additional results from Wednesday evening:— Vocal Solo (ladies).—Miss Audrey Douglas 1, Miss Catherine Goodlet 2, Miss D. Trippett 3. Sacred Solo (ladies or gentlemen).— Miss Audrey' Douglas 1. Miss D. Trippett 2, Miss A. Beatson and Miss Helen Dalgetv 3 (equal). Vocal Solo (gentlemen).—Mr T. D. Mutch 1. Character Sketch (18 and over). —Miss E. N. Shaw 1. Miss Hilary E. Mason 2. JUDGES THANKED As this was the last appearance of Mr Clark and Mr Dunne, the music and elocution judges, Mr E. Mason, secretary of the festival, thanked them for the work they had done during the week. The judges, in reply, exoressed gratitude to the Competitions Committee, and especially to Mr Mason and his assistants, for their co-operation. The competitions will be continued on Monday evening, with a programme of national dancing.
