JEWISH SUPPORT
PARTITION OF PALESTINE CANADIAN COUNCIL’S VIEW Rec. 11 p.m. OTTAWA. Sept. 4. The United Zionist Council, which claims to speak for all but a few of Canada’s 170,000 Jews, issued a statement giving almost unqualified support to the majority report of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine, which recommended partition of the Holyland. The council, however, disagreed with some details of land partition. It contended that the difficulties of development and of maintaining order would be increased by awarding portion of Galilee to the Arabs. The council declared that the dependent status of Palestine on Britain would be terminated and that there should be an alliance between the Jewish Palestine and Britain.
