SCHOOL BOXING

JOHN McGLASHAN COLLEGE For the second successive year the school boxing championship at John McGlashan College was won by D. G. Elvidge last night when the annual tournament was held in the school hall. The general standard of the boxing was good, and reflected credit on the, coach, Mr A. Goodman. Officials for the bouts were provided by the Otago Boxing Association. Experience and the use of a strong right ,to the head and body were the principal factors in Elvidge’s victory over a younger but heavier opponent, C. Turner. The latter fought gamely but was outclassed. Elvidge also won the trophy for the most helpful boxer during the year. Other trophies' were won by R. Pile (most scientific boxer) and W. Laidlaw (best loser). Pile was aggressive and' fast, and showed great ability to cover up. He out-boxed a Heavier opponent. Laidlaw figured in the most willing bout of the evening, and took a great deal of punishment gamely.

Results of the bouts were as follows:—P. Tyson beat M. Waddle, C. Russell beat J. Phillips, M. Russell beat G. Paape, L. Herron beat H. Perkins, R. Couchman beat D. Greenslade. D. Cameron beat S.
