CHURCH PROPERTY
APPLICATIONS MADE FOR FREEHOLD CONSIDERATION BY SYNOD Application for the freehold of properties at present leased and an application for the purchase or lease of part of the Knox College site were discussed by the Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland which met in the First Church buildings yesterday. The meeting was held in committee and a special committee was set up to prepare a statement for publication in the newspapers. No statement was available last evening. The Moderator, the Rev. D. D. Heggie, presided. Presenting the report of the Centennial Committee, Dr J. D. Salmond said that an endeavour was being made to arrange for the completion of the late Professor John Collie’s centennial history so that it might be published at the appointed date. A summary of the total amount of revenue received since the £rust funds were instituted was presented by Dr Salmond who said that the following grants had been made:—To parishes, £265,585 (an average of about £2500 a parish); to the Theological Hall, approximately £130,000; to church schools, approximately £20,000; to the University of Otago, £134.000; a total of £540,585.
