Hunger Strike on Immigrant Ship

Rec. 9 p.m. PARIS, Aug. 18. In spite of an official British denial, the spokesman for the French Minister of the Interior stated that the illegal Jewish immigrants on board the British ship Empire Rival off Port Debouc to-day had started a hunger strike. The immigrants refused their daily ration of food, which was sent to them and the food was returned- to the shore. The Associated Press correspondent at Port Dubouc said that Jewish representatives had issued copies of a telegram which the immigrants had sent to M. R&madier telling him that they had started a hunger strike against “ our internment on cage ships in French territorial waters.” The telegram added that the immigrants were determined not to land on European soil. They complained that conditions were deteriorating.
