TROTTING OWNERS
PROBLEM OF MAIDEN HORSES special to the Daily Times OAMARU. Aug. 19. The annual report of the North Otago Trotting Owners, Trainers, and Bieedeu Association states that trotting hadl enjoyed another good year, with g e £ public support, and the large number of maiden horses competing had given officials a problem to solve. The Trotting Association had sought recommendations from the Owners and-Breeders Associations with a view to eliminating the laige fields, and new rules governing this phase of the sport might be expected shortly. The registration of brood mares was a subject which had received the attention of the committee, and a further period for registration had been made available for those owners who failed to register prior to August 7. 1946 Application must be made to the New Zealand Trotting Association before September 1. Dealing with the Royal Gaming Commission, the report states that it was felt that the introduction of a system of oftcourse betting would result in an increase in stake money. . Some dissatisfaction with the treatment received by mares when sent to the stud had been voiced, and a special meeting of studmasters and owners of brood mares in Christchurch gave those who attended an opportunity of stating their grievances, and it was hoped that as a result breeders would receive more satisfaction.
