Frances was unlucky in the Selwyn Handicap, as she was involved in a mix-up near the five furlongs and lost ground. Beechwood has not been out of a place in his eight starts since he re-commenced racing in June. Rodeur, dam of the unbeaten Excellency, is to visit Milling this season. Improved Form Riverview showed improved form at the Grand National meeting, and in his present form the Defaulter gelding should not be off the winning list for long. Promising Hurdler With experience, Fading Light will develop into a very useful hurdler. She was got from Aurora Borealis, winner of the Grand National Steeples in 1930. Sister to Concrete Taradale, the four-year-old sister to Concrete, had three races last season without reaching a place, but she takes the eye as one who is likely to develop into a really smart performer. She is by Royal Chief from Definite. Weight Told Detain was handily placed all the way in the Heathcote Handicap, never further back than third, but the weight settled him when he tried to move up in the straight. He well, however, and his turn will come again on the spring circuit. A Good Performance Graeme's performance, to finish fifth in

the Heathcote Handicap, was of outstanding merit. He was very badly away, being hopelessly in the rear when the field settled down He made up a lot of ground and he looks a good spring prospect. Never Likely For the second time at the meeting, Bridge Acre was very expensive in the Heathcote Handicap. She was backed confidently, but at no stage did she flatter her admirers. Solidly Supported There was strong support for the West Coast gelding, Tweedside, in the Heathcote Handicap, but after showing up prominently halfway through the journey, he failed to hold his place. His form in hack races at Easter marked him off as a stayer; and he will do better before long. First Success When Edward led the field home in the Hunt Cup at Riccarton on Saturday, it was his first success. The Nightmarch gelding is getting on In years now, and is unlikely to show very much improvement. Right Through The Stolen March gelding Right Through had one win and four placings in 12 starts last season. In the Domain Hack Handicap at the Dunedin winter meeting he was prominent throughout the running, and, although stopping over the last bit, he hung on for second to Wild Note. Right Through may not show any great improvement, but he is capable of winning a hack race down this way.
