DIPLOMA COURSE
PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS ARRANGED Approval of the diploma course at the new School of Physical Education was given by the council of the University of Otago at its monthly meeting yesterday. The courses leading to the diploma will normally require not less than three years of full-time study. The aim of the course, it was stated, was to prepare students for work in physical education, health education, and recreation. During the first two years of the three-year course there would be a common basic groundwork of theory and practice for all students, but in the third year there would be some specialisation in either school physical education, community recreation, corrective work, or research. The subjects for the diploma would be as follows: First Year. —Chemistry, diploma course; physics, diploma course; education, as for 8.A., stage I; preparatory anatomy and physiology; theory and practice of physical education; practical work, stage I; practice teaching, stage I. . , Second Year.—Anatomy, diploma course; physiology, diploma course; physical education subjects; practical work, stage II; practice teaching, stage II; other subjects to be arranged. Third Year. —Application of scientific principles to various aspects of health, physical education, and recreation: nutrition, diploma course; practical work, stage III; practice teaching, stage III; other subjects to be arranged. The fees for each year of the course would be: —Inclusive fee, £3O; college fee, £1 Is; Students’ Association fee. £1 11s 6d;—£32 12s 6d.
