RANFURLY SHIELD

TO-MORROW’S MATCH AUCKLAND TEAM ANNOUNCED SEVEN ALL BLACKS INCLUDED The Auckland team to meet Otago in the Ranfurly Shield match atCarisbrook to-morrow was announced by the manager, Mr A. Orrell, yesterday as follows: — Full-back: R. W. H. Scott 12.8. Three-quarters: J. M. Dunn 13.11, L. W. Deas 12.4, R. L. Dobson 11.4, E. G. Boggs 13.2 (one to be omitted). Five-eighths: F. R. Allen 12.6 (captain) , D. J. Ewert 12.6. Half-back: P. L. Tetzlaff 10.10. Front-row: D. Christian 14.1, A. Hughes 13.0, J. G. Simpson 14.12. Middle-row: A. West 14.0, M. J. McHugh 15.2, R. Storey 14.11, P. Crowley 15.7. Back-row: G. Macdonald 14.0. The team includes four members of this year’s All Black side in Scott, Allen, Tetzlaff, and Simpson, and three others who played for New Zealand against Australia last year—Dunn, Boggs, and McHugh., Crowley and West have represented the North Island, and Scott, Dobson, Boggs, Allen, and Simpson were members of the Kiwi team. Four three-quarters have been chosen, and one will be dropped, probably either Deas (who represented Otago last year) or Dobson, one of whom will no doubt fill the centre position. A Vigorous Pack The pack as announced may have a pound or two a man advantage over the Otago forwards, but it will probably be found that there, is little difference in the weights of the respective packs. An Otago observer who saw the Auckland forwards going against Southland on Saturday described them as a strong and vigorous pack, although they may not be so mobile as tne forwards fielded by Otago. In any case, a stern tussle is certain to be waged in the front line, and on this the outcome of the game will probably depend. The Auckland team was not particularly impressive against Southland, but this observer believes the challengers will be a very different side to-morrow. • The Auckland team practised at Carisbrook yesterday morning, and several of the players had a round of golf in the afternoon. Last, night the players attended the Otago amateur boxing championships in the Town Hall. Orr Still Doubtful The. Otago team will not be finally announced until to-day. The fullback, R. Orr, received a knock in a club match on Saturday on the shoulder injured earlier in the season, but while a final decision will be withheld until to-day, it is hoped that he will be able to play. R. F. Waldron, who was one of the reserves in the first two shield matches, is also nursing a shoulder injury. The shield holders practised at Carisbrook last evening under the supervision of the coach, Mr V. G. Cavanagh, and all the other members are reported fit and well. Demand for Seats There was again a keen demand for seats for the main stand and the Henry Rose stand at Carisbrook when the booking office, Charles Begg and Co., Ltd., opened at 8 a.m. yesterday. A queue had formed by 6 a.m., and three hours later it extended into Lower Stuart street and was longer than for the North Auckland match. On this occasion, however, each person was able to purchase only three tickets, as against six for the pr6vious game, and the two stands were not sold out until about 3 p.m. Hillside Workshops’ employees will begin work early to-morrow morning to enable them to be free to see the game, and many offices and some factories throughout the city will close for the match. The Retailers’ Association has decided that shops will remain open, but no doubt only skeleton staffs will stay on duty. Many people wishing to avoid congestion at the turnstiles on Wednesday queued up yesterday for terrace and enclosure tjekets at booking offices in the city. Tickets for the terrace and the remainder of the ground will be on sale until shortly before the match to-morrow. ' Referee Appointed Mr L. Walsh, of Christchurch, has been appointed referee for the shield game.
