SECRET MEETING
QUEEN MARY AND DUCHESS OF WINDSOR REPORT IN NEW YORK PRESS Rec. 11 pan. NEW YORK, Aug. 17. The Daily Mirror publishes a report that the Dowager Queen Mary received the Duchess of Windsor on her last visit to England with the Duke, but that the meeting was officially secret. Only members of the Royal Family and statesmen close to the Crown knew of it. London editors were asked not to print rumours of a reconciliation between Queen Mary and the Duchess. The Daily Mirror says that the news was brought to New York by a Briton in a position to know all that transspires in London Court "circles, and
that political reasons are understood to have been the cause of Queen Mary’s change of heart. “The chief result of the meeting was the decision of the Windsors to go to. the south of France this summer instead of an American resort where their every move would be reported by the press. The British Government i? anxious for favourable publicity in America, and does not wish the former enmity of Queen Mary for the Duchess to be exploited there,” concluded the article.
