NEW TYPE OF STRAWBERRY

A new self-propagating variety of strawberry that crops for about eight months of the year and is extraordinarily prolific, has been developed purely by chance by Mr W. T. J. Morrison, of Rotorua. Some of the plants raised by Mr Morrison have borne as

many as 150 good-sized berries at one time. A number of the berries weighed up to two ounces, while samples weighing an ounce have been common. The new plants, which carry none of the characteristics of hybridisation, have developed naturally a peculiar means of multiplying, whereby into the ground wherever there is soil each bearing stem sends down shoots

handy to give them a footing. In a few seasons a single plant, by being divided, and divided again, can occupy a whole bed.
