Teviot Orchardists Show Co-operative Spirit

In the Roxburgh district misfortune and ill-health are not being allowed to interfere with the important task of preparing orchards for the coming season. If circumstances prevent an orchardist from carrying on his work, neighbours and friends rally round and do what they can to help. Recently there have been two instances of the prevailing spirit of co-operation. The Ettrick Fruitgrowers' Association organised a working party at the orchard of Miss E. Hamilton, who was ill, and 20 men spent two days pruning her trees and doing other necessary work. Refreshments for the men were provided by neighbours. In the Teviot district the Fruitgrowers' Association arranged a party of 27 growers to attend to an orchard following a bereavement.
