BASKING IN SUNSHINE
LONG WARM SPELL IN BRITAIN N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 16. With temperatures approaching the nineties in London and many parts of the country, Britain, in common with most of the Continent, is enjoying one of the longest and warmest spells of sunny weather for many years. On Friday temperatures in London reached 89deg and on Saturday afternoon they were climbing again towards that figure. Weather experts forecast that the hot spell will last well into next week Atmospheric conditions have been much clearer than during the previous heat wave in June, and fine weather is much more widely distributed. Reports from Belgium, Holland, Germany. Scandinavia, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Czechoslovaks, and most of France all record high temperatures and clear sunshine.
