NOTED SCHOLAR’S INTEREST VISIT TO DUNEDIN P. A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 17. One of New Zealand’s most brilliant classical scholars, Dr A. D. Trendall, professor of Greek at Sydney University, returned to New Zealand on the flying boat on Saturday afternoon to examine vases in New Zealand museums for cataloguing in “ Corpus Vaslerum,’’ an international publication on vases. He was accompanied by professor R. F. Smith, professor of Latin at Sydney University. Dr Trenctdll will spend three weeks in the Dominion and will begin his investigation at Otago Museum. Otago University, before going to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1931. He was elected to the Walston studentship in archaeology and to a senior classical scnolarship at Trinity College. Dr Trendall studied in Athens and Italy in 1934, and later became Trinity College Research Scholar. In 1936 he was made a Fellow of Trinity College and librarian at the British School. He returned to Cambridge in 1938, and was editor of the Journal of Hellenic Studies. Dr Trendall is a Fellow of the Society on Antiquaries.
