WORKING OF TANKER
NO UNION RESTRICTION P.A. WELLINGTON* Aug. 16. s There is no “ black ban ” on the Dutch tanker Coronia, which reached Wellington from Sydney to-day, and the vessel will be worked by the watersiders. Early messages from Sydney suggesting that the Soronia slipped away from that port, despite union prohibitions on Dutch shipping, raised the question whether she would be worked in New Zealand. It is now apparent that the Sydney messages were misleading. The acting secretary of the New Zealand • Watersi'de Workers’ Union Mr R. J. O’Donnell, communicated with the Australian Waterside Workers’ Federation, and asked whether the Coronia had loaded and sailed with the full approval of the unions concerned. The reply stated that the Coronia was “ clear ” from a union viewpoint, and that there was no objection to working her.
