PIPE BANDS
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED A meeting of members and supporters of the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band and the Burns Pipe Band was held during the week-end to make preliminary arrangements for the New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Championship to be held at Carisbrook at Easter. A. Wheeler (senior vice-president of the Burns Pipe Band) occupied the chair. The Mayor, Mr Cameron, was elected, patron, and Messrs Hope (president of the Dunedin Band) and D. Maider (president of the Burns Band) were elected vice-patrons. It was agreed that the election of president and vice-president should be left to the following contest committee — Messrs James Dixon, Neil Macdonald, James Himburg R. E. McLean, R. McKenzie, T. Gilchrist, A. Watt. W. Young, C. S. Turner, T. Stuart, G. Crosland, H. Tobin, G. L. Bodley, H. Millow, D. T. Vorley, J. Brown. L. McKillop, A. Wheeler, Arthur Macdonald, ,Lindsay Taylor, G. Maher, A. McMillan, C. Runsey, N. Munro, Angus Gorrie (treasurer) and G. L. Austin (honorary secretary). The following Programme Committee was appointed—Messrs L. McKillop, J. Brown, J. Wilson, N. Munro, T. Gilchrist, G. L. Austin and the president. The Whanga'rei and County Pipe Band, the Hutt Valley Pipe Band, and the New Plymouth Caledonian Society wrote signifying their intention of competing at the championships.
