FIGHTING IN INDONESIA REPORTS FROM BOTH SIDES Rec. 7 p.m. BATAVIA, Aug. 14. Fighting on all fronts in Java and heavy clashes on the Pameksan front of Madura Island are reported in a Republican military situation’ report broadcast to-night from Jogjakarta Pameksan is the second biggest town on the Madura Island, the occupation of which was begun by the Dutch forces before the cease fire was given on August 4. The report lists a total of 20 incidents between the Dutch and Indonesian forces. Five heavy clashes with Republican troops in Central Java are reported in a Dutch Army communique. The Dutch casualties in the past 24 hours are reported as six killed and 14 wounded. The principal clashes occurred at Benjumas, where an attack was launched by a band of about 100 men, and south-west of Salatiga, where 200 men were driven back by Dutch patrols after Purwokerto was fired on with mortars and machine guns. In South Sumatra Republican groups about 600 strong are reported to have attacked Kajuangung. The attack was successfully repulsed.
