NORTH ISLAND UNION’S DEMAND P.A. ROTORUA, Aug. 15. A substantial reduction in the taxation on petrol amounting to 8d per gallon is being sought by the North Island Motor ■ Union, and the text of a resolution passed at the general conference in Rotorua to-day ,has been despatched to the-Prime Miriister, Mr Fraser, and the Minister of Finance, • Mr Nash. The Governments of South Africa and Australia had already substantially reduced taxation, it was stated, and' it was hoped that the Government would revoke the 4d a gallon tax imposed as a special war-time measure and that a further tax of 4d per gallon, imposed 16 years ago should also be removed or allocated to the Main Highways Account to be used for the benefit of motorists.
