“THE EGG AND I”

REGENT THEATRE ATTRACTION Four separate prints of the screen version of Betty MacDonald’s celebrated book, “ The Egg and I ” have been acquired by Universal International Studios for the New Zealand filmgoer. One print is now in its fourth week in Auckland, the second print has just commenced screening in Wellington, while the third and fourth copies of the film will open simultaneously next Friday at Dunedin and Christchurch. Every cherished scene and humorous incident from the pages of the book has been faithfully portrayed by a perfect cast, including Claudette Colbert, Fred Mac Murray, Marjorie Main, Percy Kilbride, Richard Long, Louise Allbritton and Billy House. Even that inanimate character " Stove, the iron monster in Betty’s Hie," is in the cast. How a young bride and her man forsook a streamlined apartment in the city to find happiness and prosperity on a broken-down chicken farm is deliciously told in this eagerly awaited film, which commences its Dunedin season at the Regent Theatre on Friday. The box plan will open at the D.I.C. on Monday morning at 9 o’clock.
