BUILDING PERMITS
“ FREEZING ” CRITICISED MASTER BUILDERS’ PROBLEMS P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 3. Concern at the method which has been adopted in “ freezing ” permits for the erection of all types of buildings was expressed at a recent meeting of the Wellington Master Builders’ Association. While it was appreciated that this might be only a temporary hold-up to enable the Governof the whole position, members felt that there was no apparent reason for the “ hush hush ” policy which had been adopted, said the association in a statement. No official intimation had been received by the Buildings’ Association of the intention of the department ' to make a complete survey ment to suspend the issue of permits, and builders had found that keeping their staffs fully employed in the existing conditions presented many difficulties and the taking of action such as this, with no warning, had placed an extra and unnecessary burden on employers.
