OCEAN BEACH DOMAIN
Sir, —Could you tell me what the " powers that be ” are doing, or trying to do, with that once beautiful track of land through the lupins between St. KUda and St. Clair? A friend and I often go hiking on a Saturday, and that track, which no longer exists, used to be a favourite walk of ours. Is is to be, in the very far future, a playing area and for tennis courts, etc., or is It simply a piece of ”no man’s land,” to be ploughed up periodically in order to give employment’to men out of work? There has been a good deal of controversy lately about unsightly spots around our beautiful city to be put to rights before our centennial year. Could this land not be included in the list, so that our visitors from the north and elsewhere could be recommended to take that once delightful walk through the lupins?—l am. etc., Constant Hiker. [lt has been reported that, as part of the plan to improve the Ocean Beach Domain, a chain-wide drive is to be constructed along the sand dunes from St. Clair to St. Kilda, with two access roads from Victoria road.—Ed. O.D.T.]
