AMERICAN POPULARITY POLL MR CHURCHILL HEADS PRESIDENT Special Correspondent Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, June 11. A Washington message states that, according to a recent Gallup poll, Mr Winston Churchill is more popular in tne United States than President Truman. The only American figures higher in public esteem are General MacArthur, who was placed first, and General Eisenhower, who was second. Mr Truman takes fourth place, followed by Mr George Marshall,, Mrs Roosevelt, Mr James Byrnes, his Holiness the Pope, Sister Kenny, the Australian infantile paralysis campaigner, and Mr Tom Dewey, the Republican white hope for the Presidency. Among the 48 “ also rans ” were Mr Anthony Eden, Mr George Bernard Shaw, General Smuts, and the Duke of Windsor.
