SCHOOL COMMITTED WORK
REQUEST TO EDUCATION
BOARD
At a special meeting of delegates lo the Otago Schools Committees’ Association last night the question of payment for secretaries of committees and travelling expenses for committeemen was discussed. Letters from the School Committees of St. Clair and Owaka advocating such a system were read, and a letter was received from the North-East Harbour committee criticising the proposals. After discussion, during which delegates expressed the opinion that the position of secretary to school committees was a public duty and honour, the motion was put to the meeting and lo*t. It was decided, however, to request the Otago Education Board to alter the act to permit a sum of money to be granted in the incidental allowances for travelling expenses of country members at the discretion of the board. Delegates spoke of the shortage and possible inaccuracies of the existing copies of the by-laws of the Otago Education Board. It was decided to ask the board to revise by-laws and issue copies to headmasters and school committees.
