COMMUNIST OFFENSIVE
FRESH GAINS IN MANCHURIA Rec. 11 p.m. NANKING, June 3. Despatches published to-day report that six full Communist divismns under General Wan Yi are' attacking the Nationalist defenders of the three key cities of the Changchpn-Mukden railway. The despatches indicate that matters are going badly for the Government at Changtu, Szepingkai, and Kaiyuan. , , , ... * Reports from Mukden say that 20,000 fresh Communist troops were moved into the offensive against Changtu. The newspaper Hsin Min Pao reports that the Communists have occupied Wafangkai, on the Liaotung peninsula. - _ .. The army newspaper Peace Daily reports that a Nationalist volunteer army of 15,000 captured Hulan, 20 miles north of Harbin, a big Communist base in Northern Manchuria, preparatory to striking against Harbin itself. If this report is confirmed it will represent the first indication of substantial Government guerrilla units operating within Communist territory.
