HIGH COUNTRY PROBLEMS
SOLUTIONS DEEMED ESSENTIAL
Although the names of the proposed High Country Commission had been sent forward, the personnel of the commissiofi has not yet been announced, said Mr S. Sim in his presidential address to the conference of Federated Farmers yesterday. The high-countrv farmer had an unusual, yet essential, role in the economy of the. country, and he faced difficulties that were not shared by any other group of farmers. “ Fortunately, the prices for fins wool, practically his only source of revenue, are remaining high and seem likely to do so for some time, as fine wool is about the only quality that the Joint Organisation cannot supply in quantity.” Mr Sim added. “Some means must be found, however, of helping the man to be certain of a regular income and at the same time allow him to tackle the problems of erosion, overstocking, and other soil destroying agents.”
