ANTI-COMMUNIST CRUSADE
Sir,—But for the fact that my name was mentioned therein I might never have known that “ Matilda’s ’’ letter was meant to be an answer to an earlier letter of mine dated May 20. None of the statements I made in my former letter have been questioned. Indeed, the truth of my statements is so well known that to contradict them publicly would be most unwise. “Matilda" prefers to enact once again her old performance, raising the Hymn of Hate to talk about glass houses and stones. Personally I never did live in a glass house and I discontinued the practice of throwing stones about 60 years ago. The introduction of abusive words such as “ treachery,” “ vilest,” and ‘‘most vicious,” and speaking of my simple writing as vapourisings is a thing not done by really nice ladies, and in my experience not often done by ladies of the other sort. A more serious matter than any of those mentioned above is the making and publishing of an untrue statement concerning myself. “ Matilda ” accuses me of having said that imperialism is responsible for all our wars. I have never said such a thing. I still contend that what I wrote in my first letter was perfectly true. If “ Matilda ” wishes to question those statements well and good, but no more Billingsgate language, please.— I am, etc., Walter <5. Cope.
