Interesting movements in share prices in New Zealand from 1940 to 1946 are shown in a table from the statistical summary of the Reserve Bank fpr May. Taking as base the average price in 1938 equalling 1000, the table shows that whereas the index for frozen meat was 1055 in 1940 it was 1874 in 1946. Woollens rose in the same period from 1225 to 1941; insurance, from 1071 to 1861; miscellaneous industrial, including breweries, nom 1035 to 1353; other miscellaneous, from 1014 to 1830; loan and agency from 856 to 1446; timber, from 1022 to 1555; banks, from 933 to 1152; minerals, from 1018 to 1086; and gas, from 897 to 909. The index for all industrial groups (excluding banks, insuranbe, loan, other miscellaneous) rose from 1024 in 1940 to 1372 in 1946, and the index for all groups combined rose from 999 to 1486. The all groups index (base 1000 in 1938) shows similar increases. The index was 1025 in March, 1940, against 1589 in March this year. The lowest index in 1940 w**s 936 in June, and it compares with 1504 in June, 1946. The highest in lv «a> April’s 1064, which compares with 1466 in April, 1946.
