RUGBY INTERESTS

UNION MEETING Mr A. W. Marshall was in the chair at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union on Monday night and the following members were also present:— Messrs J. Macmillan. A. R. Low. H. W. Cross, J. Benson, W. I. Budd, D. J. G. Lawrie, W. L. Brown, J. Firman, H. S. Strachan, R. L. Brown, and D. S. Loder. The Canterbury union advised that the Canterbury sub-union was prepared to play in the annual matches with the Seddon Shield districts, and it was agreed to advise Marlborough that Canterbury would replace South Canterbury in the scheme. It was decided to forward £SO, North Otago’s commitment in the scheme, to the Marlborough union, the first of the Seddon Shield districts to travel under the annual interchange. The New Zealand union advised that it had voted the sum of £4OO towards the cost of inaugurating the scheme, not £4OO a year as stated in the detailed scheme forwarded by North Otago, Mr J. Macmillan, who attended the conference as North Otago’s delegate, said he was certain the conference had stipulated that £4OO each year would be available, and the other delegates who discussed the scheme with the New Zealand council were under the same impression. It was decided to ask Mr Macmillan to make further inquiries from the delegates from the Seddon Shield districts. Transfers

P. McCone (Marist, Wellington) was granted a transfer to Old Boys subject to a clearance being produced. F. D. Browning was granted a transfer from Excelsior to Old Boys, with effect from August 26. Player Cautioned For attempting to strike a Maheno player during the Maheno-Excelsior game last Saturday, a member of the Excelsior Club was placed on the " cautioned” list. The Ashburton Union confirmed July 19 as the date for the match with North Otago at Oamaru. It was decided to write to the Southland and Otago Unions inquiring whether they intended sending their sub-union teams to North- Otago this season. It was agreed to write to the New Zealand Union requesting that the South African trial game between North Otago, Ashburton and South Canterbury be played in Oamaru. Draw for Saturday
