QUESTIONS FROM THE NEWS

NEW RADIO CONTEST A novel form of radio “ quiz ” programme was introduced to listeners last night by Station 4ZB. Under the title “Clues from the News,' the session tests the thoroughness with which contestants read their newspapers as well as their ability to memorise the information contained in newspaper reports. t ... The questions put to competitors in the opening session last night were based on news items published in Dunedin newspapers during the past week, and ranged from the number of mutton birds caught during the present season to the names of English sportsmen who produced a record cricket partnership in a recent match. _ Four competitors are to take part m the session each week, the incentive being provided by the sponsors, the Calder Mackay Company, Ltd., which is to give prize money amounting to more than £IOO during the currency of the feature. The questions to be asked in future sessions will follow the lines of those put to the first four competitors. Listeners may be expected to appreciate the opportunity which the contest provides of testing their own ability to retain the information gained in newspaper reading.
