ELECTORAL ROLLS

KEEPING LISTS UP TO DATE WORK OF REGISTRAR’S OFFICE Although there is no indication of the imminence of a general election, the work of keeping the Dunedin rolls up to date is proceeding steadily, and applications for enrolment are being received by the district registrar of electors, Mr G. A. Hislop. Those eligible for enrolment are persons who have completed three months' residence in any electorate, together with one year’s residence (or longer) in New Zealand, as well as those who have attained the age of 21 since the last election. The registrar informed the Daily Times yesterday that names were being removed from the rolls for various reasons, and all changes of addresses notified by electors had been dealt with appropriately. He added that electors should be cognisant of the fact that they were required to .advise him of any changes in their addresses. Since the supplementary rolls for the last election closed on November 6, the following additions and removals have been attended to:—

In view of the fact that as from this year the parliamentary rolls are to be used as the basis for compiling rolls for local body elections. Mr Hislop said that all persons who. had reason to believe that their names were not on the parliamentary rolls should take immediate steps to ascertain their position. Should theii*. names not be on the parliamentary rolls, they would probably be disfranchised at the local body elections. At the present time the registrar and his staff are preparing lists of additions to the four Dunedin rolls, deletions and changes of address noted since September 14. 1946. On application these lists’ will be forwarded to all local bodies whose districts are comprised within the four Dunedin city electorates. This information would enable the local bodies concerned to bring their rolls up to date.
