ONE DAY’S PAY

APPEAL BY UNITED NATIONS RELIEF FOR NEEDY CHILDREN AND MOTHERS Rec. 9 p.m. NEW YORK, May 27. The United Nations intends to appeal to everybody in the world to give one day’s pay to build a gigantic fund for the relief of 60,000,000 needy children and mothers all over the globe, says the Herald Tribune. Plans for the world-wide collection, which will take place this year, are now being made by Herr Aake Ording, of Norway, who conceived the idea, then convinced the United Nations of its practicality and is now director of the United Nations Appeal for Children. The campaign will run for a month, opening on a date set by the Secretarygeneral, Mr Trygve Lie. Herr Ording has not set a goal for the appeal nor dared to estimate how much money might be raised. The fund will provide food, clothing and medicine for children, adolescents and nursing and expectant mothers. The next major step in the to convene before June 30 an international conference of non-govern-mental organisations to establish an international committee and then national committees will be asked to organise a drive in each country.
