LAND SALES CONTROL

INQUIRY IN AUSTRALIA DEBATE BY HOUSE REFUSED Rec. 9 p.m. CANBERRA, May 28. Commonwealth investigation officers were inquiring into the administration of land sales control, said the Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, in the House of Representatives. No other inquiry would be made until that investigation was completed. Mr Chifley was replying to Mr R. G. Menzies. who moved an adjoui'nment of the House to discuss the need for an authoritative inquiry into the charges levelled against the administration of land sales control. Mr Menzies read a letter from the Sydney delegate of the treasurer, Mr F. A. Lush, making charges against the administration and said that the charges might be untrue, but they should be investigated publicly The debate was gagged and the adjournment motion defeated. Mr Lush stated in Sydney that he had been on sick leave for several weeks, but that so far as'he knew he remained the principal delegate of the treasurer in New South Wales in land sales control matters.
